When Should You Consider Calling a Re-piping Specialist?
Your Home has Polybutylene Pipes
If your home was built before the 1970’s or hasn’t been remodeled, you will most likely have old pipes that need to be replaced right away as they can be dangerous to your health and home. Look for light gray, blue gray or white plastic piping and see if the letters “PB” printed along the side.
Below we offer a few tips that will help you determine if your house needs to be repiped.
Look for visible signs of corrosion
Take a look at exposed pipes. Look for discoloration of any kind, rust-colored markings, flaking, and dimpling. These are all major signs of corrosion. Be sure to look for yellow or brown water coming out of your sinks or tub for both the cold water and the hot. This is a sure sign that your pipes are decaying. Be sure to also take a look at the pipes that connect to your water heater.
Look for Signs of Leaks
If you notice a leak in your pipes, there may be other leaks you are unaware of. Leaks are a sure sign that your pipes are old and worn and likely need to be replaced. Be aware of higher than normal water bills. Be aware of lower than normal water pressure. Be aware of abnormal smells and mold. Rather than having to continually repair your pipes, the best option is to replace them.
